Euro 2016 Finals afternoon

This afternoon, the rain held off long enough for us to play our final afternoon of both competitions and we witnessed some amazing matches!

Firstly, we played the semi-finals from the Key Stage 2 competition:  Czech Republic v Hungary and then Spain v Switzerland.  Both matches displayed real end-to-end excitement but both finished 0-0 which meant a penalty shoot-out in each match.  Czech Republic beat Hungary on sudden death penalties after the main shoot-out finished 1-1 and then Spain defeated Switzerland 3-1 in their penalty shoot-out.

Secondly, in the Reception and Key Stage 1 final, the match finished Wales 2 Republic of Ireland 0.

Then, in the Key Stage 2 competition, Hungary prevailed in the 3rd place play-off match, beating Switzerland 2-0.

Lastly, the Key Stage 2 final between Czech Republic and Spain looked like it was heading for a 0-0 finish and a penalty shoot-out but then up popped Reece from Year 5 who scored the decisive goal and the match finished 1-0 to the Czech Republic.

Well done to all children involved over the past couple of weeks of competition.  In total, 222 children have played a total of 102 matches in 48 different teams and everybody has tried really hard.

Semi-final 2:  Romania 0 Republic of Ireland 3

3rd place play-off:  Romania 0 Iceland 3

This means that the Euro 2016 Final for Reception and Key Stage 1 will be played between Wales and the Republic of Ireland as part of the finals afternoon with the whole school watching – it will be quite an event!  Iceland finished 3rd in the competition and will also receive an award at the presentation ceremony.

Year 4 Charity Event for WWF

Thank you to everyone who supported Year 4’s fundraising stall for WWF. Children enjoyed the animal tombola, guessing the name of the tiger and buying masks, bookmarks and cupcakes. Guess how many buttons in the bottle finishes Friday lunchtime and winners of the tiger and lion will be announced in assembly. The stall has raised £115 so far – fantastic, thank you.
