Year 1 Class Assembly

We are so proud of the performance Year 1 put on in their class assembly. We acted out the story The Scarecrows Wedding and the children really enjoyed sharing it with their families and the school.

In History we have been learning about Castles and Homes. We have been comparing our houses to castles in Norman times. We had a lovely trip to Clitheroe Castle, where we learnt about Motte and Bailey Castles and designed our own in sand. We also looked at the structure and history of Clitheroe Castle.

We had lovely day on World Book Day! We read stories, talked about our favourite books, designed book covers and completed book reviews. We also created our potatoes based on a book character. Here is a sneak peak!

In D&T we have been tasting fruit and using our senses. We tasted a range of exotic fruits and described the smell, taste and texture. The children were very brave and all had a go at tasting the following:

  • Persimmon
  • Papaya
  • Mango
  • Melon
  • Pineapple
  • Lychee
  • Passion fruit
  • Lemon
  • Apricot
  • Grapefruit

We will be moving on to designing and making our own fruit kebabs. Here are some pictures of the fruit we have tasted and our experience.

We designed and made our fruit kebabs. We practised carefully cutting the fruit and chose which ones we wanted on the kebab. It was a beautiful day so we decided to eat them outside in the sunshine!

This half term we have been practising observational drawings, painting with water colour, mixing paints and learning about Primary and Secondary colours. We have also been using stamping tools.  Here is some of our wonderful art work.

In science our topic is Astronomy and Light. We have been learning about the weather and recently prepared and presented some fantastic weather reports!
