Welcome to EYFS!

Mrs Bromley and I have been so pleased with how well the children are all settling into school life at Britannia. They are a fantastic cohort and we thoroughly enjoy teaching them every day. We strive to create a happy, creative environment where your child can thrive and reach their full potential.  We are always available at the end of the day if you wish to speak to us about anything!

In Reception we follow the chidren in where they would like to take their learning. Planning is done weekly and encorporates all the chidren would like to learn and explore whislt ensuring that Development Matters is fully covered.

This half term our topic is 'Journeys'. (Spring 2 2020)

In maths this half term the children will be learning:

  • Number recognition to 20 and beyond
  • Addition & subtraction
  • Comparing 2 or 3 groups of objects
  • Days of the Week
  • Measuring – comparing different ways of measuring length
  • Class shop – how many 1p’s do you need to buy things?
  • Making models using 3D shapes – name and describe properties
  • Addition/subtraction word problems

All of the children in Reception are great little mathematicians. We carry out investigations involving number, shape, space and measure on a daily basis. Please support your child at home by doing lots of counting games as well as shape hunts. If you need any further ideas, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Isherwood.

In English we will be reading a variety of books based on the interests of the children. Our main focus texts this half term are 'Naughty Bus' by Jan and Jerry Oke, 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!' by Mo Willems and 'Tadpoles Promise' by Jeanne Willis.

This half term we will be focussing on using the sounds we already know to help us write simple words and sentences.

The children also receive daily phonics sessions following the Read Write, Inc scheme.

Reading books are changed on a Monday and a Friday. On Monday, the children will bring home a paper copy of the book they are reading in their phonics lesson. On Friday they will bring home an additional 'Book Bag Book' linked to their main phonics book. Please aim to read each of these books three times during the week so that we can inprove fluency.

As your child is reading please ask them questions about what they have read. Please make comments in their reading record books so we know when they have read at home.

Please remember to sent in £1.50 Snack Money each Monday for your child’s daily snack and additional resources.

If your child is on packed lunches, please make sure that all grapes are cut in half length-ways!

Please see the weekly newsletters for important information and dates. These will be uploaded onto this web page each Friday.

Please make sure that all clothing is labelled! If you are missing any items, please see a member of the Reception Team.
