Welcome to EYFS!

Mrs Bromley and I have been so pleased with how well the children are all settling into school life at Britannia. They are a fantastic cohort and we thoroughly enjoy teaching them every day. We strive to create a happy, creative environment where your child can thrive and reach their full potential.  We are always available at the end of the day if you wish to speak to us about anything!

In Reception we follow the chidren in where they would like to take their learning. Planning is done weekly and encorporates all the chidren would like to learn and explore whislt ensuring that Development Matters is fully covered.

This half term our topic is 'Once Upon a Time'. (Spring 1 2020)

In maths this half term the children will be learning:

  • Number recognition
  • Addition & subtraction
  • Comparing 2 or 3 groups of objects
  • Days of the Week – Mr Wolf’s week
  • Measuring – comparing height of beanstalks
  • Class shop – how many 1p’s do you need to buy things?
  • Making models using 3D shapes – name and describe properties
  • Addition/subtraction word problems linked to Traditional Tales
  • Taller/shorter etc- Beanstalks

All of the children in Reception are great little mathematicians. We carry out investigations involving number, shape, space and measure on a daily basis. Please support your child at home by doing lots of counting games as well as shape hunts. If you need any further ideas, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Isherwood.

In English we will be reading a variety of books based on the interests of the children. Our main focus texts this half term are a variety of Traditional Tales, including; Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood and many more.

This half term we will be focussing on using the sounds we already know to help us write simple words and sentences.

The children also receive daily phonics sessions following the Read Write, Inc scheme.

As well as their weekly library book (which are changed on a Tuesday as long as your child has brought in their current book), your child will bring home a reading book linked to the sounds they know. Please listen to them read every night and ask them to predict what they think will happen. As they are reading ask them questions about what they are reading. Please make comments in their reading record books so we know when to change their book.

Home reading books are sent home on a Tuesday and changed the following Tuesday. Please see the half term homework grid in your child's homework book for fun activities to do with your child.

Please send any WOW moments to me on the email address below:

Please remember to sent in £1.50 Snack Money each Monday for your child’s daily snack and additional resources.

If your child is on packed lunches, please make sure that all grapes are cut in half length-ways!

Please see the weekly newsletters for important information and dates. These will be uploaded onto this web page each Friday.

Please make sure that all clothing is labelled! If you are missing any items, please see a member of the Reception Team.
