Reception 2019 - 2020
Reception teacher, EYFS and RE lead.
Welcome to EYFS! Mrs Bromley and I have been so pleased with how well the children are all settling into school life at Britannia. They are a fantastic cohort and we thoroughly enjoy teaching them every day. We strive to create a happy, creative environment where your child can thrive and reach their full potential. We are always available at the end of the day if you wish to speak to us about anything!
In Reception we follow the chidren in where they would like to take their learning. Planning is done weekly and encorporates all the chidren would like to learn and explore whislt ensuring that Development Matters is fully covered.
In maths this half term the children will be learning:
- counting reliably from 1-10
- counting up to 10 objects/actions/pictures
- conservation of numbers
- one more and one less to 5
- comparing amounts
In English we will be reading a variety of books based on the interests of the children. Our main focus texts this half term are 'Stuck' by Oliver Jeffers and 'Shark in the Park' by Nick Sharratt.
This half term we will be focussing on correct pencil grip as well as name writing.
The children also receive daily phonics sessions following the Read Write, Inc scheme. Home reading books will be sent home before October half term, when we feel your child is ready.
Please send any WOW moments to me on the email address below:
Please remember to sent in £1.50 Snack Money each Monday for your child’s daily snack and additional resources.
If your child is on packed lunches, please make sure that all grapes are cut in half length-ways!
Please see the weekly newsletters for important information and dates. These will be uploaded onto this web page each Friday.
Please make sure that all clothing is labelled! If you are missing any items, please see a member of the Reception Team.
In Reception, and the rest of KS1, we are having a big push on reading. All the children have daily phonics lessons in small groups and some children will be receiving additional support. We are aiming for fluency (being able to read approximately 75%-90% of words on sight) and so your child will not be moved up a reading level until they are fluent on their current books.
Every child will read to either the teacher or a TA on a Thursday, as well as one or more other days in the week. As part of our whole school push for reading, we are asking children to read each night. Every time they read with an adult they will receive a special sticker on a chart at school. The children with the most stickers at the end of a half term will be entered into a prize draw to win a book!
All of the children in Reception are great little mathematicians. We carry out investigations involving number, shape, space and measure on a daily basis. Please support your child at home by doing lots of counting games as well as shape hunts. If you need any further ideas, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Isherwood.
