‘Every child counts, every moment matters’

Year 1 2021 - 2022

Miss Birch

Y1 class teacher, Art and DT lead.

Welcome

Welcome to Year 1! Your teacher is Miss Birch and we have two marvellous teaching assistants called Mrs Greenwood and Miss Dawson.

In Year 1 we work very hard and learn about lots of exciting things. Below is our yearly overview so you can see what types of things we will be learning about this year.

Each half term there will be a class and PSHE newsletter to tell you anything you will need to know for the upcoming half term. These can also be found below.

Welcome meeting

Please see below for the powerpoint shared in our Year 1 welcome meeting along with any of the doccuments we handed out.

Homework

Homework will be set on Google classroom on a Friday and is due the following Wednesday. Please sign into your child's google classroom account on a Friday to check for the activity.

Spellings will be set on a Friday and tested the following week. You will be able to find the spellings for the test in their reading records and scores will be added following the test.

Please ensure your child reads at home each night to develop their fluency. It is so important to read with your child during year 1 as we are learning the fundamental skills for how to read.

P.E

P.E days are Monday and Tuesday. On these days your child will need to come into school wearing their P.E kit. They need black shorts/tracksuit pants and a white t-shirt or our school P.E kit. Monday and Tuesday are the only days where trainers/pumps should be worn. On all other days your child must be wearing black school shoes, not trainers.

Milk, fruit and toast

Toast is available for break times. If you wish for your child to have toast, please pay on parent pay. If your child does not have toast please send them in with a piece of fruit.

Milk is available for afternoon snack time and needs to be paid for using cool milk. Please contact the school office for further information on this. In the afternoon we also have a piece of fruit which is provided by school.

Water bottles

Please send your child in to school with a named water bottle for them to drink throughout the day. This must contain water and not juice. Juice can be in lunch time bottles.
