‘Every child counts, every moment matters’

Art and Design

Art and Design plays a vital role in developing creativity, imagination, and self-expression in our pupils. Through a wide range of projects, children explore different materials, techniques, and artistic styles while learning about artists and cultures from around the world.

Our curriculum encourages pupils to experiment, take creative risks, and develop their own ideas, helping them build confidence and resilience. Art lessons also support wider learning by strengthening skills in observation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. We love seeing the pride children take in their creations, whether it’s a classroom display, a whole-school exhibition, or a piece they’re excited to share at home.

Art at Britannia is taught in block units over a number of weeks each term, to allow children to become fully immersed in their learning and creativity. We are lucky to have fantastic links with a number of local artists and enjoy frequent visit days, whereby children have the opportunity to try new techniques, practice new skills and create a whole school art gallery!

From painting and drawing to sculpture and digital media, children are given the opportunity to celebrate their individuality and showcase their work within school and the wider community.
